Ólafur Helgi (aka Starina) is now studing for his journeyman certificate in dressmaking at Tækniskólinn í Reykjavík and is an apprentice at Brúðarkjólaleiga Katrínar (bridalstore). He graduated from Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti - Milano with a BA degree in Fashion and Textile Design September 2013. With big intrest in costmue design for the preforming arts, he as developed unique style in fashion. Focusing on the display part on his creativity, he creates a hole setting for a show, event or a wedding. Where every detail from the tabel cloth and the bouquets to the gown is cearfully examend to fit the mood of the wedding.
Ólafur Helgi has been interested in performing arts ever since he joined the drama club in elementary school. He has encountered many jobs in this area, like acting, directing, costume, stage and light design. In Breiðholt College he took an active part in the school’s drama club. The productions that were set up included Cry-Baby, at Tjarnabíó theater in 2001 and ABBA: Thank You For The Music! shown in Loftkastalinn theater in 2002. In the ABBA show Ólafur Helgi was head of costumes in addition to playing one of the leading role. In the last decade Ólafur Helgi has been the creative director of drag shows, where he has designed costumes, roles and overall image of drag queen Starina and won the title drag-queen og Iceland 2003. In the summer of 2004 he was working on designing and sewing tops for contestants in the modeling competion Face North. Ólafur Helgi has designed costumes on many occasions for Gay Pride in Reykjavik.
